Chicken

I have a confession to make.

When Mr. Akers is out of town, I am a scaredy cat. Any little noise in the house, as normal as it may be, sends my imagination whirling to episodes of Criminal Minds. So, do you know what I do?

Order a sleepover in Mommy & Daddy's room with my little protector:

I love this little boy! Until looking at this picture, I didn't realize he had his Mommy's nose, and her cupid's lips.

Sweet Dreams!

Our Lil' Snowflake

It was one day before Aunt Flow was to come visit and shatter my hopes once again of a bun in the oven. We hadn't been trying this month though, so the day wasn't as ominous as it had been the last 3 months. The problem was, it didn't feel like Aunt Flow was coming at all, and part of me felt a little off. So, out of a slight curiosity (charged mostly by my spite for the $10 digital pregnancy test going unused in our bathroom drawer) I slipped away to the bathroom to satisfy my recent addiction to peeing on sticks.

As I sat there on that porcelain throne, I stared intently down at the hourglass displayed on my Clear Blue pregnancy test. Mentally, I started writing out my first blog post about our failures at conceiving: There's No Such Thing As Accidents.

Why is this taking so long? I don't remember the blow of that "Not Pregnant" response taking this long in the past. Despite joking with my friends that we'd end up pregnant this month on the account of not trying, I knew in my heart of hearts, there was just no way we were....

No way! The word disoriented me and made me feel slightly crazy. How did that happen?! I ran out in the hall to get Mr. Akers and excitedly dragged him by the arm into our bathroom. I pointed down at this little, marvelous word, now sitting on the bathroom counter. He smiled, and in his typical, calm, Mr. Akers fashion, said "Okay, okay... Don't get too excited yet!"

But... It was too late!

I was already dancing around the bedroom like we won the lottery, clicking my heels and congratulating Mr. Akers' swimmers on a job well done!

And Mr Akers? Well, he laid calmly on the bed with our precious little word in front of him, and this goofy, proud grin on his face:

We are in our 9th week now, so Our Lil' Snowflake has officially graduated from "Embryo" to "Fetus"! I get pretty excited over little developments like this, can you tell?

Our first ultrasound at 7 weeks showed a strong little heartbeat of 141bpm, but had us measuring 1 week behind our initial due date of 12/14. So, our due date was moved to 12/20:

However, this week after seeing our wonderful OB, and viewing our second ultrasound, we're back on track for 12/14/2011:

So, although our due date is a little up in the air, one thing's for certain: Our Lil' Snowflake will be debuting just in time for our 1 year wedding anniversary (12/30), and we are all pretty excited about that! :)

It's the small things...

My Mother's Day was beautiful! JD had a sleepover at Papa's, so Mr. Akers and I went to my favorite breakfast spot, T.C. Eggingtons, before it opened at 6:30am to beat the Mother's Day crowd!

We came home and took a long nap afterwards, got presents from my boys, and then headed over to Grandma's house to cook her a favorite: Chicken & Zucchini in a garlic cream sauce. Yum!

As I came home that night, I stumbled upon this photo of my Cool Grandma, who I'd been missing all day. Wouldn't you know it just happened to be taken at T.C. Eggingtons?

Sometimes it's the small things in life that make me the happiest.

Kindergarten Homework

This Kindergarten curriculum is some serious stuff:

I remember Teddy bears and singing the alphabet from my Kindergarten days. That's not Kindergarten now!

My Lil Kindergartener Monster has homework every night. He reads 1st grade level books. He can write full sentences on his own, and draw pictures to illustrate them. See the concentration that goes into putting a finger space after each word in a sentence?

Lil Monster will be graduating Kindergarten in less than a month! Remember how anxious I was when he started last summer?
